Rui Li, Ph.D.
With a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a foundation in cryobiology, Rui has dedicated her career to enabling the success of living medicines.
Her expertise spans the full preservation continuum—from formulation and packaging to freezing, storage, shipping, thawing, and post-thaw analytics—across temperature ranges from cryogenic to ambient supply chains. Beyond developing biopreservation systems, she works across the broader context in which these systems operate, navigating patient-forward commercial pathways, regulatory expectations, competitive dynamics, and organizational realities.
Beyond individual organizations, Rui has played an instrumental role in advancing the field through international working groups, including ISCT and ISO, creating educational content, best practices, and emerging standards that shape advanced therapy manufacturing.
As founder of EastWind CryoWorks, she resolves immediate issues and defines strategic paths forward for teams facing critical preservation and program challenges at the cutting edge of biopharmaceutical and cold chain industries.
Outside of customer engagements, Rui contributes to the ATMP community by teaching methods for evaluating low-temperature primary packaging and adopting holistic cryopreservation program strategies.
